The Cat Came Back.

Freddie Wilson had a cat that he didn't want to keep,
Because all night it howled and howled and didn't let him sleep.
He grabbed it by it's furry neck and threw it outdoors,
And chased it far away - he thought he'd see it nevermore.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

The cat was a possessor of a family all its own
With seven little kittens until there was a cyclone
Blew the houses all apart and tossed the cat around
The air was full of kittens and not one was ever found

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

On a telephone wire, some sparrows sitting in a bunch,
The cat was feeling hungry, thought she'd like 'em for a lunch;
She climbed softly up the pole, and when she reached the top,
Her foot touched the electric wire, which tied her in a knot.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

Freddie Wilson took this cat that he didn't want to keep,
And he offered her for sale, but no-one would buy her cheap.
He called upon the preacher to ask for his advice,
The preacher said just leave her here, for she would be so nice

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

Freddie put her in a box and he tied it up quite well.
He had some fellows help him and he paid them not to tell.
They put it in a boxcar, the west-bound 7:10
The train it left the station and was never seen again.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

Freddie put the cat on board a ship headed for Ceylon,
The ship was overloaded, about forty thousand ton;
A hurricane blew up, and that gallant ship went down
There wasn't any doubt about it, everybody drowned

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

Freddie put the cat on board with a man in a balloon,
Who said he'd give the cat away to the man in the moon,
The balloon it didn't rise, it burst in bits instead,
Ten miles away they found the poor baloonist stone cold dead

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

Freddie gave her to a little boy with a dollar note,
And told him for to take her up the river in a boat;
They tied a rock around her neck that weighed seven pounds
And now they drag the river for the little boy who drowned.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

Freddie gave her then to a young man going way out West,
And told him please to take her to the one he loved the best;
The train ran round the curve too fast and hit a broken rail,
And not a soul was left alive to tell the gruesome tale.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

He put her in a cotton sack and gave her to a girl
Who'd started on a bi-cy-cle trip all around the world
Then far away in China a fatal wreck was found
She's singing now in heaven with the angels all around

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

He then put her on a plane that was bound for Sidneytown
He thought with all that rain they had that she would surely drown
Well the rain it came down for the 92nd day
And yes that whole darn city just a-floated out the bay

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

He put her on the White House lawn, I'll tell the reason why
With all the golfballs flying, he thought she would surely die
Well the very next morning, what do you think they found
But 64 poor squirrels lying dead upon the ground

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

He threw her in a kennel where a mean dog was asleep
The bones of nigh a hundred cats lay piled in a heap
That kennel burst apart and the dog flew out the side
With both his ears chewed off and bloody holes in all his hide.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

At last he thought he found a way this cat to really fix
He put her in an orange crate on highway 66
There came a ten ton mack truck with a twenty ton load
And scattered pieces of that crate for miles down the road

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

Freddie sneaked into a shop with the butcher not around
And dropped the cat into the hopper where the meat was ground
The cat let out a howl that was a blood-curdling shriek
And all that shop's hamburger tasted furry for a week

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

He took her down to NASA and they put her into place
And shot her in a satellite far into outer space
Freddie smiled and laughed because the cat was gone by gum,
And then he got a phone call that he prayed would never come.

They said the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

Now, everyone in town was sworn to shoot that Cat on sight.
For with that crazy cat around you couldn't sleep at night!
They even formed a posse just to hunt the cat down!
And all their guns were blazin' as they ran her out of town!

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

Freddie Wilson finally vowed he'd shoot that cat on sight
And loaded up his shotgun full of nails and dynamite
Then he hid in the garden till the cat came around
And when the dust had settled just his ear was ever found.

But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.

The atom bomb fell... just the other day,
The H-Bomb fell... in the very same way;
Russia went, then England went, and then the U.S.A.
And all the world was finished up without a chance to pray.

But her ghost came back the very next day,
Her ghost came back; it just wouldn't stay away.
Yes the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back; it just wouldn't go away.
